Sarai Food Experience, Kargil
The Sarai food experience was born as the brainchild of Muzaffar Hussain and Yash Saxena. Sarai is a curated food experience that combines storytelling, local customs, and traditional food. The experience aims to uplift the stature and perception of Kargili food for both outsiders and locals.
By positioning Kargili food in a high-end dining experience format, Sarai is able to let Kargilis see that outsiders do see the value in their cuisine. Sarai's chef, Acche Haqima, is a homemaker and a passionate cook. In association with her, a 7-course meal is prepared keeping in mind seasonality and flavour pairings. The Experience changes venues and aims to familiarize the guests with different aspects of Kargili life through the food it serves and the stories it tells.
Sarai is set to travel to Delhi, Mumbai and Goa in 2025.
I was awarded the Outlook Sustainable Tourism Award in 2025 for championing travel that is gentle on the earth and invested in the well-being of local communities.
